HATA Ltd arranges student placements for our course participants to gain experience and references for their future career.
Maternity Nurses and Nannies are usually well experienced nannies who are looking to expand their skills or change their career. They will be looking for families with new-borns or very small babies. As with any placement with a newly qualified Maternity Nurse or Nanny, the parents must give support and guidance and not expect to leave the student in sole charge.
The hours should be the same as they are generally with any maternity placement i.e. 24 hours with a few hours free to catch up with sleep (usually from 6 am till 10 am).
However, as the newly qualified Maternity Nurses are keen to gain experience they are generally happy to accept a few hours here and there.

A Maternity Nurse provides complete care for mother and baby. They provide a smooth introduction to helping you and your new baby settle into family life. This includes advising you on and helping you with feeding your baby, bathing, changing and settling baby down. They are also responsible for baby’s laundry and taking care of the nursery.
A newly qualified Maternity Nurse would be trained to share her knowledge with you, but also will be expecting to take your guidance as a mother about your expectations and your feedback. The Maternity Nurses are trained to listen in confidence, encourage you and your partner’s involvement and promote positive relationships between siblings whilst generally being a great source of help and advice.
At the end of the Placement you will be expected to write references for your Maternity Nurse and give her feedback about any weakness and suggestions you might have for her whilst also highlighting any positive experiences you had from the placement.
After discussing your needs with a HATA Consultant you will be sent profiles or CVs for your consideration. You should then interview your HATA Newly Qualified Maternity Nurse about 1 month prior to the due date.
Once you are happy to proceed with the placement, HATA will invoice you to secure your booking.
Newly Qualified Sleep Consultants/Night Nannies might be well experienced Nannies or Maternity Nurses who are looking into changing their career. Sometimes they will be less experienced Babysitters who are looking to expand their skills.
Newly Qualified Sleep Consultants/Night Nannies will generally arrive at your home at 9pm and leave at 7am, but this can be flexible. This flexibility can be especially useful at the weekends, as parents might want to benefit from having someone there in the morning for that very precious lie in.
A Night Nanny will not only care for the child, but will also guide the child to sleep through the night and take care of the night feeds, changing nappies, settling the child, preparing and sterilising bottles, getting the child dressed in the morning and preparing the breakfast if required.
New Sleep Consultants (an experienced Night Nanny, but newly qualified) will go a step further and will be working with parents to find the right solution to their child’s sleep issue. Together with parents they go through any behavioural issues, looking at diet, the child’s appetite, their sleep cycle, health issues and any other concerns contributing to child’s sleep problem. The Sleep Consultant will suggest the right techniques and develop a suitable calm routine that both parents and child will feel comfortable with.

Gaining actual work experience is extremely important. Ideally you will need to have obtained a HATA qualification and work experience to secure a paid position. Experience and references are one of the most important things in the private domestic service sector and without any you may well find it difficult to find a well-paid placement.
To help you to gain experience and hopefully excellent references HATA is also providing a work experience program. We strongly suggest charging a reduced rate. For those of you without any experience we suggest that you do not even charge at all as this will enable you to get that needed first placement and reference. Once you have one reference, more opportunities will come.
